Privacy Policy

The content on the website ResponsibleBrands.org (hereinafter referred to as “The Site”) is provided by Responsible Brands Initiative, non-profit corporation registered in the state of Oregon (hereinafter referred to as “RBI”).  Please read this Privacy Policy carefully, because your use of The Site constitutes agreement with these conditions and obligations.

RBI strongly believes in protecting the confidentiality and security of information we collect and store about the individuals who use The Site and our information products. The details below describe our privacy policy and how we treat the information we receive about you.

This Privacy Policy, although documented separately herein, is a part of the Terms of Use for The Site.  You are encouraged to also read the Terms of Use, all of which you agree to by using The Site.

1. Why We Ask To Know About You
In general, we seek information about you in order to provide you with an experience on The Site that is better suited to your individual interests.  Also, and at a minimum, we ask that you provide basic email contact information when you agree to respect the copyright of information that you seek to access.  Depending on other actions you take, we may ask for additional information about you, again to allow us to provide a service and convenience that is more suited and tuned to your preferences and interests.

Most of the information we receive comes from you.  However, we may also gain additional information as you interact with The Site and various other services we provide.

​3. Your Right To Opt-Out
Whenever we ask for information about you there will always be the option for you to not “opt-in” by not taking the action for which we asked you for information.  When you provide the information we ask for, you are also agreeing that we may contact you to provide additional information or services which we believe may interest you. There is the option for you, at any time you choose, to “opt-out” from receiving further information via email or other communication means and upon request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to remove your personal information from our database.

Opting-out also means that you will be unable to access some information on The Site, and which has restricted access.  You always have the option to, once again, “opt-in” in order to access information which has restricted access.

If you wish to be removed from our contact lists, please select the unsubscribe option at the bottom of any emails that you receive from RBI or by contacting us at contact@responsiblebrands.org with the subject line UNSUBSCRIBE or by writing us at the address shown in Section 15 of this Privacy Policy.

4. How We Protect Your Information
We treat the information we hold on you as confidential and may retain it for a reasonable period. RBI takes care in handling this information and will only request it when there is a good reason to do so. We make every effort to ensure the security of your information held in our database(s) or those of our vendors.

We may use anything we know about you to enable us to serve you better. We will not disclose your information to any third-party except if they are involved in a relevant service in support of The Site (for example, web hosting or cloud storage).

We will explicitly seek and receive your approval before we transfer any of your personal data to the third-party working on our behalf — contractors, vendors, administrators or professional advisers.

RBI does not sell, rent or otherwise provide your personal data to others outside RBI and its subsidiaries.

Should RBI be acuired by another company, your personal data may be transferred to the buyer of RBI for them to use in the same way.

We may be obligated to disclose specific information about you due to a governmental request, process or court order or based on our good faith belief that it is necessary to conform or comply with such law, request or court order or to protect the users of The Site or the public.

6. Availability and Correction of Your Information
We always try to ensure the information we have about you is correct and complete.  Should you request by writing or email, we will generally let you review what information we hold about you. Should the information prove to be incorrect we will review it and correct our records upon agreement with you.

7. Protection Of Your Data in Our Sites’ Public Areas
At this time there is no area of The Site where you can voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information (such as usernames or email addresses) in a manner that makes your information publicly viewable.

In the event that The Site adds features and capabilities for use by visitors where personally identifiable information is entered and displayed to the public (for example, message boards) that information, can be collected and used by third parties which may lead to unsolicited messages from other third parties and such activities are beyond our control.

8. How We Use IP Addresses
Your IP address may be used to help us diagnose any problems with our server or to help us administer The Site. Your IP address may also be used to help us gather broad demographic information to enable us to understand visitors to The Site.

9. Our Use Of Cookies
We collect non-personal information and data through the standard operation of our servers or through the use of cookies. Cookies are small text files which enable us to identify a repeat user.  Cookies help us improve your experience on The Site and enable us to make content improvements. The may help you, for example, by delivering content specific to your interests, or to save your password for specific areas of The Site so you do not have to re-type it every time you return.

Should you not want information collected through the use of cookies most browsers allow you to enable or disable their use on your computer.  By turning off this browser feature certain features of This Site may become unavailable (e.g. register once for routine access to copyrighted information).  For example, you would then be required to provide contact information for each access of information on The Site in an area of restricted access.

10. Advertising on The Site
There is no advertising on The Site, and consequently there is no way for other companies to employ cookies to collect any information about your interest in The Site or the topics for which we provide information or insights.

11. Privacy of Young Children
We are concerned about the privacy of young children and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from a child under 13. We do not market to, mean to interact, nor do we provide any information that is intended for anyone under the age of 13 years.

By using The Site, you agree and confirm to RBI that you are not under the age of 13 years.

12. California Rights
If you are a California resident, you may ask us to refrain from sharing your information with certain of our affiliates and other third parties for their marketing purposes.  As previously noted and except as described in Section 5, we have no plans to share your information with third-parties.

13. Links to Other Sites
When The Site contain links to other websites outside our control we cannot be responsible for their content or handling of your information when you provide that to them.  The Site does not pass any personally identifiable information when you jump to another website by clicking a link on The Site.

14. Entire Agreement
The Terms of Use for The Site, including this Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and RBI and its affiliates with respect to the subject matter herein and supersedes any and all prior or currently existing oral or written agreements.
